Renri : A Feast of Fortune and Togetherness

If food is the language of love, then Renri (人日)—the seventh day of Chinese New Year—is a symphony of flavors, tradition, and celebration! Known as the common birthday of all humans, this day is more than just another marker in the festive season; it’s a tribute to new beginnings, prosperity, and the joy of sharing a great meal.

But Yu Sheng is more than just a salad—it’s an interactive culinary ritual. The fun begins when everyone gathers around, chopsticks in hand, to toss the ingredients high into the air while shouting auspicious wishes like "Lo Hei!" (捞起), meaning “toss up good fortune.” The higher the toss, the greater the prosperity in the year ahead—so don’t be shy!

Each ingredient carries a symbolic meaning:
🥢 Raw fish (, yú) represents abundance (, yú).
🥕 Carrots signify good luck and blessings.
🧄 White radish wishes for a rise in career and success.
💰 Golden crackers resemble gold bars, bringing wealth.
🍯 Plum sauce adds a touch of sweetness to life.

The result? A deliciously crunchy, tangy, and refreshing bite that embodies the essence of Renri—shared joy, unity, and prosperity.

A Feast of Longevity and Good Fortune

Renri is not just about Yu Sheng; it’s a day for indulgence, and every dish on the table tells a story of luck, health, and happiness:
